Chapter 8 - The Impossible Choice

"David?" I whispered, my vision blurring with tears of disbelief and horror.

David looked up at me, his face swollen and covered in dried blood.

"I am so sorry, Maya," he cried, his voice hoarse and broken.

"I faked my death to keep you and Oliver safe from these monsters, but they found me."

Victor pulled a silver revolver from his coat and pressed the barrel hard against the back of David's head.

"Drop the drive into my hand, or I will paint the street with your husband's brains," Victor promised.

My mind was completely paralyzed by the impossible choice in front of me.

If I gave him the drive, he would simply kill all of us to eliminate the witnesses.

If I dropped it in the sewer, my husband would die right in front of my eyes.

"Don't give it to him, Maya!" David screamed, fighting against the chains binding his wrists.

Oliver broke free from my grip, crying out for the father he thought he had lost forever.

He ran straight toward the line of armed cartel soldiers.

Victor laughed and turned his revolver away from David, aiming it directly at my running six-year-old son.

"Say goodbye to your boy," Victor sneered, pulling back the hammer of the gun.

Suddenly, Adele reached into her tactical vest and pulled out a small, metallic cylinder.

"Close your eyes!" Adele roared at the top of her lungs.

She tossed the cylinder right at Victor's expensive leather shoes.

It was a military-grade flashbang grenade.
