Chapter 5 - The Bleeding Hero

Silas raised a suppressed pistol and aimed it directly at my six-year-old son's head.

"Give me the drive, or the boy dies right here in the dirt," Silas threatened with a chillingly calm voice.

I did not have the silver drive.

I had dropped it in the grass on my front lawn when the fake police officer attacked me.

"I don't have it," I cried out, stepping in front of Oliver to shield him.

Silas let out a disappointed sigh and tightened his finger on the trigger.

Without a second of hesitation, the injured Chief of Police lunged across the dark room.

He tackled Silas at the exact moment the gun fired.

The bullet grazed my shoulder, shattering a glass jar on the shelf behind me.

The Chief grunted in agony as Silas drove his elbow into the older man's wounded ribs.

"Run, get out of here!" the Chief yelled, pinning the cartel cleaner to the floor with his last ounce of strength.

I scooped Oliver into my arms and bolted up the wooden stairs.

We burst into Adele's kitchen, finding the entire house completely ransacked and destroyed.

I ran toward the back door, praying that we could escape through the alleyway.

Just as my hand touched the doorknob, Silas reached the top of the basement stairs, his face covered in blood.

He raised his gun, aiming it squarely at the center of my back.

Suddenly, the back door was kicked open from the outside with explosive force.

An elderly woman wearing black tactical gear and holding a massive combat shotgun stepped into the kitchen.

It was Adele.
