Chapter 6 - The Vanguard Strike

The blinding spotlight pinned me against the burning wreckage of the fake truck.

I immediately dove behind a thick concrete barrier as heavy machine-gun fire tore through the asphalt.

My mother’s voice echoed from the helicopter loudspeaker, coldly demanding that I stop resisting.

I could not believe that the woman who had raised me was now leading a tactical death squad.

I pulled the stolen mercenary rifle from my back and checked the ammunition magazine.

I only had twenty rounds to fight off an entire team of heavily armored corporate killers.

The helicopter hovered lower, allowing six armed mercenaries to fast-rope onto the factory floor.

I used the thick black smoke from the burning truck as a visual screen to mask my movements.

I silently flanked the first two soldiers, taking them down with precise, non-lethal strikes to the neck.

I grabbed their flashbang grenades and hurled them toward the remaining attackers.

The deafening explosions disoriented the squad long enough for me to sprint toward an underground access tunnel.

I slid down the rusted metal ladder, plunging into the dark, damp maintenance corridors of the factory.

I navigated the labyrinth using my tactical training, staying three steps ahead of the pursuit team.

My only goal was to find a secure vehicle and track the helicopter back to Vanguard’s hidden base.

I found a maintenance exit that led to a heavily guarded underground parking garage.

Detective Carter was standing next to a sleek black SUV, frantically arguing into a secure radio.

He was angrily demanding his final payment from Vanguard for successfully kidnapping my son.

I crept up behind him and pressed the cold barrel of my rifle directly against his spine.

I forced him to drop his weapon and surrender the encrypted tracking device containing Eli's location.

Carter laughed menacingly, claiming that I was already too late to save my child.

He reached into his jacket and pulled out a remote detonator linked to explosive charges in the ceiling.

Before he could press the button, a massive sniper bullet shattered the windshield of the SUV.

The high-caliber round struck Carter perfectly in the shoulder, throwing him violently to the ground.

I turned around to see Jackson standing in the shadows, bleeding heavily but very much alive.
