Chapter 8 - The Courtroom Showdown

The judge adjusted his heavy glasses and looked down at Sterling with immediate interest.

My parents' lawyer jumped up, objecting loudly and claiming we were trying to ambush the court with fabricated documents.

The judge swiftly overruled him, ordering Sterling to present the evidence to the bench.

Sterling proudly handed over the original, notarized will we had just recovered from the bank vault.

He also submitted the handwritten letter from my grandmother, which explicitly detailed my parents' history of theft and manipulation.

The judge read the documents carefully, the silence in the courtroom growing heavier and more suffocating by the second.

My mother shifted uncomfortably in her chair, her smug facade beginning to crack under the intense pressure.

"This original will clearly states that Sarah Jenkins is the sole inheritor of the property in question," the judge finally announced.

"Furthermore, it explicitly revokes any previous claims of a one-third split, rendering the plaintiffs' entire lawsuit fundamentally fraudulent."

My father stood up, his face purple with rage, and pointed a shaking finger at me.

"That is a fake! She forged that will just like she forged the mortgage!" he shouted across the room.

Sterling smiled a cold, calculating smile.

He pulled out a small USB drive and plugged it into the courtroom's visual display system.

"Your Honor, this is the security footage from the plaintiffs' own bank, provided by the regional director this morning," Sterling explained.

The large screen flickered to life, showing crystal-clear video of my parents sitting in David’s office.

The video clearly showed my mother signing my name onto the massive loan document while David knowingly stamped the notary seal.

The entire courtroom gasped in absolute shock at the blatant, undeniable proof of a major felony.

My parents' sleazy lawyer slowly packed up his briefcase, realizing his clients had lied to him and his career was now at risk.

He quietly asked the judge for permission to withdraw as their legal counsel, which was immediately granted.

The judge slammed his gavel down so hard it echoed like a gunshot.

"I am issuing immediate bench warrants for the arrest of both plaintiffs on charges of grand larceny, forgery, and perjury," the judge declared furiously.

Two armed bailiffs immediately stepped forward, grabbing my parents by their arms and forcing them out of their comfortable chairs.

My mother began screaming hysterically, kicking her expensive shoes off as they snapped heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists.

"You ungrateful brat, you ruined our lives over a stupid cake!" she shrieked at me as they dragged her down the aisle.

I stood up, looking her dead in the eye with absolute, unwavering calm.

"No, Mom, you ruined your own lives the moment you decided my daughter wasn't good enough for your family," I replied smoothly.

As the heavy courtroom doors swung shut behind them, the judge turned his attention back to me.

"Mrs. Jenkins, I am awarding you full ownership of the property, lifting the freeze on your accounts, and ordering the university to reinstate your daughter's scholarship immediately," he ruled.
