Chapter 7 - The Lobby Standoff

I spun around and slapped David’s hand away from my shoulder with absolute fury.

He was flanked by two large bank security guards, both looking nervous and confused by their boss's aggressive behavior.

"This is my private property, David, and you have absolutely no legal right to touch it," I stated loudly, making sure the guards heard me.

David’s face turned a violent shade of red as he desperately tried to maintain his authority in the vault.

"This woman is attempting to steal documents related to an active fraud investigation!" David lied smoothly to his guards.

"Confiscate that folder immediately!"

The guards hesitated, taking a hesitant step toward me.

Marcus stepped squarely between us, his imposing frame daring them to try.

Mia did not miss a beat.

She pulled out her phone and hit the record button again, pointing the camera directly at David’s sweating face.

"This is David Lawson, the branch manager who illegally forged a two-hundred-thousand-dollar mortgage signature for my grandparents," Mia narrated clearly.

David panicked, lunging forward to swat the phone out of her hand.

"Do not touch my daughter!" I screamed, shoving him backward into the steel wall of the vault.

The commotion echoed loudly, drawing the attention of the bank's regional director, who happened to be visiting the branch that morning.

An older, sharply dressed woman marched into the vault, demanding to know why her manager was assaulting a customer.

I immediately handed the regional director the digital copies of the forged mortgage and the threatening emails from my parents.

I loudly explained that David was complicit in a massive financial crime and was actively trying to destroy evidence.

The regional director’s eyes widened in horror as she reviewed the blatant forgery on the documents.

She looked at David, who was currently trembling and looking for a way to escape the vault.

"Call the police and have Mr. Lawson detained in my office immediately," she ordered the security guards.

The guards eagerly complied, grabbing David by the arms and dragging him away as he begged for his job.

The regional director apologized profusely, assuring us that the bank would fully cooperate with our legal team to clear our names.

We walked out of the bank with the original will securely tucked under my arm, completely victorious.

We drove straight to the courthouse, where the emergency hearing regarding my parents' fake civil suit was scheduled to begin.

We walked into the grand courtroom and took our seats right behind Sterling, our lawyer.

My parents were already sitting at the opposing table, looking incredibly smug and confident in their expensive clothes.

They truly believed they had destroyed us completely.

The judge slammed his wooden gavel, calling the chaotic courtroom to order.

Before my parents' sleazy lawyer could even open his mouth, Sterling stood up and approached the bench.

"Your Honor, we have new, irrefutable evidence that not only destroys the plaintiffs' case, but proves they belong in handcuffs," Sterling announced powerfully.
