Chapter 5 - The Rat

Vincenzo Moretti explained his brilliant, evil plan through the live video feed.

He had simply used my mother's blind greed to get past our estate's heavy security.

Now that he had Grace, he did not need the old woman's permission for anything.

He intended to wipe out the entire Rossi bloodline tonight and claim the city as his own.

The video feed suddenly cut out, leaving the screen completely black.

I smashed the phone against the side of the helicopter in a fit of violent rage.

My lieutenants waited silently for my orders, their weapons ready for a bloodbath.

I knew Vincenzo had a massive network of hidden safehouses across the industrial district.

Searching them all blindly would take weeks, and Grace's time was running out by the minute.

I needed an inside source to pinpoint exactly where Vincenzo would take his ultimate prize.

I ordered my men to drag the dead pilot out of the cockpit and search his pockets.

They found a encrypted pager that only received messages from high-ranking Moretti captains.

I told my tech specialist to reverse-engineer the signal tower pinging the pager.

It took thirty excruciating minutes of waiting in the pouring rain before he got a solid location.

The signal was bouncing off an old, decommissioned meat packing plant three miles away.

We loaded back into the armored SUVs and sped through the deserted, flooded streets.

I instructed my men to turn off their headlights as we approached the massive, decaying brick building.

We surrounded the perimeter silently, moving like ghosts in the heavy storm.

I signaled my breach team to plant explosives on the heavily reinforced steel loading doors.

The explosion blew the doors completely off their hinges, sending a massive shockwave through the air.

We stormed into the freezing, dimly lit factory, shooting down Moretti soldiers in a hail of gunfire.

Bodies dropped to the slippery floor as we cleared the massive meat lockers one by one.

I cornered a wounded Moretti captain near the massive industrial freezers.

I pressed my boot into his bleeding shoulder and demanded to know where they were keeping my wife.

The captain coughed up blood and laughed directly in my face.

He told me I was an absolute fool for thinking they would bring the pregnant woman here.

He pointed a shaking, bloody finger toward the heavy steel doors of the main freezer.

He whispered that Vincenzo only brought the useless trash to the meat plant.

May you like

I yanked the heavy freezer door open and instantly froze in my tracks.

My mother was hanging upside down from a rusted meat hook, shivering violently in the freezing cold.
