Chapter 3 - The Hostage

My mother's voice mocked me through the static of the intercom system.

She coldly explained that the Moretti family had offered a very generous peace treaty.

They promised to end the turf war on one single condition.

They wanted my unborn son to be raised as the new heir to their own syndicate.

My mother had actually agreed to sell her own flesh and blood to our sworn enemies just to secure her financial empire.

I screamed into the empty room, promising her I would burn the entire estate to the ground.

She merely laughed and told me the helicopter was already waiting on the roof to take the child away.

I sprinted back through the bloody corridor and bounded up the concrete stairs two at a time.

I burst out of the hidden room just as the heavy rain outside turned into a massive thunderstorm.

The longtime butler was still standing in the main hallway, clutching a silver tray in pure terror.

I grabbed him by the throat and demanded the access codes to the roof.

He choked out the numbers, begging for his miserable life.

I dropped him to the floor and ran toward the grand staircase.

Dozens of my own loyal Rossi soldiers were suddenly flooding into the mansion.

They looked completely confused, unaware of the treason my mother had just committed.

I shouted orders to my men, telling them to lock down every single exit and shoot any Moretti mercenaries on sight.

My loyal soldiers instantly raised their weapons and followed me up the marble stairs.

We fought our way through the second floor, clearing out my mother's personal guards.

I kicked open the doors to the roof access stairwell.

The deafening roar of a helicopter engine shook the walls of the narrow staircase.

I burst onto the roof just as the black chopper began to lift off the landing pad.

Through the rain-streaked window, I saw my mother holding a tiny bundle wrapped in a blue blanket.

I raised my gun to shoot the pilot, but I instantly froze in complete horror.

The side door of the helicopter slid open to reveal the ruthless boss of the Moretti family.

He was smiling wickedly while holding a razor-sharp knife directly against Grace's pregnant belly.
