Chapter 3 - The Delivery in the Dark

Richard lunged forward with the speed of a man half his age, grabbing the fake doctor's wrist right before the needle pierced my skin.

The two men crashed violently into the medical cart, sending sterile metal instruments clattering loudly across the tile floor.

Another brutal contraction tore through my body, forcing me to double over in absolute agony on the floor.

The assassin kicked Richard in the ribs, sending the older man sliding backwards into the heavy wooden desk.

He turned his cold attention back to me, pulling a suppressed pistol from the deep pocket of his stolen surgical scrubs.

Before he could pull the trigger, the heavy steel door burst open again.

Richard’s massive personal bodyguard, a former military contractor named Thorne, stormed into the room like a freight train.

Thorne tackled the assassin through the glass partition of the adjoining observation room, showering the floor with dangerous, jagged shards.

I screamed as my body bore down involuntarily, the baby pushing its way into the world amidst the chaotic violence.

Richard scrambled across the floor with blood pouring from a cut on his forehead, sliding into position to deliver my child.

He talked to me in a calm, steady voice, completely ignoring the brutal fistfight happening just ten feet away.

With one final, earth-shattering push, the deafening sound of a newborn baby crying echoed through the bloody room.

Richard wrapped my beautiful, perfect son in a clean white towel and placed him gently onto my exhausted chest.

I sobbed uncontrollably, pressing my lips to my baby's warm forehead and promising I would never let anyone hurt him again.

Thorne walked back into the room, wiping blood from his knuckles, and confirmed the assassin was permanently neutralized.

He searched the dead man's pockets and pulled out a encrypted satellite phone that was actively buzzing with an incoming text message.

Thorne read the message aloud to the room, his deep voice thick with absolute dread.

The message was from Marcus Vance, confirming that the fifty-million-dollar wire transfer had just been successfully pushed through the system.

But the funds had not been sent to Evan's personal domestic bank account as we originally anticipated.

The money had been wired directly into an untraceable offshore account belonging to a notorious international mercenary syndicate.
