Chapter 8 - The Cornered Rats

Facing decades in federal prison for wire fraud, embezzlement, and tax evasion, the Vance family did what cowards always do: they turned on each other.

In a desperate bid to reduce his sentence, Julian agreed to a plea deal. He threw his own mother under the bus, testifying that Beatrice was the mastermind behind the offshore shell companies and that she had coerced him into embezzling the funds to maintain her lavish lifestyle.

Beatrice retaliated by handing over emails proving Julian had orchestrated the entire scheme to pay off massive gambling debts he had kept hidden from everyone.

They tore each other to shreds in the legal system.

Meanwhile, Julian's defense attorney approached Victoria, begging for mercy in the divorce proceedings.

"Julian will sign over full physical and legal custody of Lily," his lawyer offered, looking defeated. "He will waive all rights to the marital home and the remaining domestic accounts. Just please, drop the civil suits."

Victoria looked at me. I nodded.

"Draw up the papers," Victoria smiled. "And tell your client to enjoy his new accommodations."
