Chapter 8 - The Desperate Escape

Beatrice’s arrogant facade finally shattered into a million jagged pieces.

She stared at the silver hard drive in my hand, knowing her entire criminal empire was completely over.

Agent Miller stepped forward, pulling a heavy pair of steel handcuffs from her tactical belt.

"Beatrice, you are under arrest for international wire fraud, grand larceny, and conspiracy to commit murder," the agent announced.

As the agent reached out to grab her arm, Beatrice suddenly lashed out with terrifying speed.

She grabbed the heavy silver candlestick from the counter and swung it brutally into the agent's temple.

Agent Miller groaned and collapsed heavily onto the marble floor.

In the ensuing chaos, Beatrice grabbed the agent's fallen sidearm and aimed it directly at my chest.

"Back away, all of you!" Beatrice screamed, her previous calm completely replaced by wild desperation.

The other federal agents instantly raised their weapons, but they froze, unwilling to risk my life in a crossfire.

Christopher coward on the floor, weeping silently and covering his head with his trembling hands.

"You are going to walk me out to that black SUV, Savannah," Beatrice ordered, pressing the cold barrel against my spine.

I raised my hands slowly, my heart pounding as she aggressively pushed me toward the shattered patio door.

We stepped out into the freezing night air, the red and blue police lights completely illuminating the backyard.

"You will never get out of the city," I warned her, trying to keep my voice steady.

"Shut up and keep walking," she hissed, jabbing the gun painfully into my ribs.

Suddenly, a loud, sharp whistle echoed from the dense trees near the property line.

The syndicate enforcer, who had slipped away during the initial FBI raid, stepped out of the shadows.

He raised a suppressed sniper rifle and aimed it directly at Beatrice's head.

"The boss doesn't like loose ends, Beatrice," the enforcer stated calmly.

Beatrice panicked, wildly shifting her aim away from me and firing blindly into the dark trees.

I used that exact split second of distraction to throw my entire body weight forward into the wet grass.

The enforcer pulled the trigger without a single ounce of hesitation.

Beatrice dropped the stolen weapon and collapsed onto the patio, clutching her severely wounded shoulder in agony.
