Chapter 10 - The New Beginning

I stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of my new penthouse, sipping a cup of perfectly brewed green tea.

The morning sun reflected brilliantly off the towering glass skyscrapers of the surrounding city.

My phone buzzed on the sleek marble kitchen island, signaling a calendar reminder for a massive upcoming corporate merger.

I smiled, feeling completely energized and ready to conquer the fierce business world once again.

The nightmare with Christopher and Beatrice felt like a distant, terrible movie I had watched a lifetime ago.

Both of them were currently rotting in maximum-security federal prisons with absolutely no chance of early parole.

I had successfully completely reclaimed my entire life, my fortune, and my unyielding personal power.

I walked over to the kitchen counter to sort through the small stack of morning mail.

Most of it was generic corporate invitations, luxury catalogs, and basic utility bills.

However, resting at the very bottom of the pile was a small, unmarked wooden box secured with a brass latch.

There was no return address, no postage stamp, and no identifying courier marks of any kind.

I cautiously opened the tiny brass latch and slowly lifted the heavy wooden lid.

Inside rested a beautiful, delicate gold locket that I hadn't seen since I was seven years old.

It was the exact same locket my late mother had given me before she tragically disappeared.

Tucked neatly beneath the antique jewelry was a crisp, typed note on heavy cardstock.

The chilling message simply read, "Christopher was just Phase One, so get ready to finally come home, Sis."
