Chapter 1 - The Blue Folder

The lead officer stared intently at the screen of my laptop.

He silently scrolled through the neatly organized files I had presented to him.

Christopher shifted his weight nervously from one foot to the other.

His arrogant smile had completely vanished the moment the officer’s expression turned grim.

"Sir, this laptop contains bank records proving your wife is the sole financial provider," the officer said coldly.

He then opened the slim blue folder resting on my kitchen counter.

"Furthermore, these legal documents show that Christopher signed away all rights to this property three years ago," the officer added.

Beatrice stood up so fast that her chair scraped loudly against the marble floor.

"That is an absolute lie," Beatrice shrieked, clutching her expensive pearl necklace.

"My son owns this house, and this deranged woman just attacked him unprovoked!" she yelled.

The officer looked at the angry red burn mark developing across my left cheek.

"Ma'am, the only person with physical injuries here is your daughter-in-law," he noted dryly.

Christopher took a panicked step backward.

"You don't understand, she manipulated those documents when my business went under," Christopher stammered.

The officer pulled a pair of heavy metal handcuffs from his tactical belt.

"Christopher Vance, you are under arrest for domestic battery and suspected financial fraud," the officer announced.

I felt a profound sense of relief wash over my trembling body.

I watched with quiet satisfaction as they aggressively secured his hands behind his back.

Beatrice did not run to comfort her son as the police dragged him toward the door.

Instead, she calmly reached into her designer handbag and pulled out a folded piece of thick parchment.

"Take him to the station, officer, but this woman is still leaving my house today," Beatrice stated smoothly.

The second officer frowned and took the document from her manicured hands.

"This is an emergency eviction notice and a temporary restraining order signed by a local judge this morning," the officer read aloud.

I froze in absolute shock.

"The judge granted it because Christopher submitted evidence that you have been poisoning his food for months," Beatrice smiled wickedly.
