Chapter 7 - The Arrest

Marcus froze in his tracks, staring down the dark barrels of the federal agents' weapons.
His chest heaved with panicked breaths as the reality of his total destruction finally crashed down upon him.
One of the agents violently grabbed Marcus by the collar of his expensive suit and slammed him against the dining room wall.
The sharp sound of heavy steel handcuffs clicking shut echoed loudly through the completely stunned room.
Chloe, realizing she was deeply implicated in the embezzlement, quietly tried to slip out through the kitchen door.
Before her hand could even touch the brass doorknob, David and his surveillance team stepped into the doorway.
David held up a tablet playing the crystal-clear video of Chloe pouring the lethal poison into my champagne glass.
He coldly informed Chloe that attempted murder carried a mandatory life sentence in a federal penitentiary.
A female officer immediately stepped forward and roughly placed the screaming, crying mistress in heavy iron chains.
Eleanor rushed forward, desperately trying to pull the federal agents away from her disgraced, criminal son.
She screamed that I was a lying, manipulative witch who had obviously doctored all the evidence to ruin him.
Mr. Sterling turned to Eleanor with a look of absolute, chilling authority that instantly silenced her.
He informed her that her son had stolen over twelve million dollars, and her own personal bank accounts were already completely frozen by the government.
Eleanor gasped, clutching her chest as her wealthy, privileged world entirely evaporated into thin air.
The agents began dragging Marcus toward the front door, his expensive Italian leather shoes scraping against the hardwood floor.
He violently twisted his head back to look at me, his eyes burning with a terrifying, absolute madness.
Marcus laughed maniacally, the sound echoing off the high ceilings like a genuinely unhinged psychopath.
He screamed that I could take the house and the money, but I would never truly be safe from him.
He promised that his criminal contacts would hunt me down and finish the job he started on the icy porch.
I walked slowly toward him, my posture perfectly straight and my expression completely devoid of any fear.
I leaned in incredibly close to his face, letting him smell the expensive perfume he had bought me to apologize for his first violent outburst years ago.
I whispered that he was absolutely nothing but a pathetic, cowardly little boy who was going to rot in a concrete box.
The agents forcibly shoved him out the front door and down the long driveway toward the waiting police cruisers.
The flashing red and blue lights illuminated the quiet, wealthy neighborhood, signaling the absolute end of his reign of terror.
Mr. Sterling approached me gently, apologizing profusely for unknowingly employing such a dangerous, abusive monster.
I thanked him for his help and kindly asked all the remaining guests to leave my property immediately.
Once the house was finally empty, I collapsed onto the sofa, letting out a long, heavy breath of absolute relief.

My phone suddenly buzzed with an incoming encrypted text message from a completely unknown, restricted number.
The message simply read that Marcus had triggered a failsafe dead-man's switch when he was arrested, and the real nightmare was just beginning.
