Chapter 6 - The Digital Trap

I stared at the burner phone in my trembling hands as if it were a live grenade.
Julian had somehow planted a tracking virus on the device before Evelyn even gave it to me.
He had orchestrated the entire hospital escape just to lure me into an isolated location.
Mara snatched the phone from my hand and smashed it into pieces with the heel of her shoe.
We knew destroying the tracker was useless because the syndicate already had our exact floor.
The security contractors barricaded the front door with heavy oak furniture and prepared their weapons.
I refused to sit in the corner and wait to be executed by the man who had tormented me for years.
I opened my laptop and connected to Mara's highly secure encrypted network.
If Julian wanted to use technology to hunt me, I would use it to completely obliterate his life.
I accessed the frozen escrow account and initiated a mass unfreezing protocol.
I did not send the syndicate's laundered millions back to Julian's corporate accounts.
Instead, I wired the entire forty million dollars directly into the personal checking accounts of my greedy parents.
I then forwarded the transaction receipts and the hidden ledger directly to the FBI cybercrime division.
I sent a separate, untraceable message to the syndicate bosses with the new location of their money.
I provided them with the exact address of the new house my parents had desperately tried to buy.
I had successfully turned Julian's most dangerous enemies away from me and pointed them directly at his allies.

A massive explosion suddenly rocked the hallway outside Mara's apartment.
The heavy steel door buckled inward as the syndicate mercenaries breached our final defense.
