Chapter 8 - The Forged Signature
The entire heavily armed police squad paused instantly in their tracks upon hearing Olivia's claim.
Michael turned around slowly, raising a single skeptical eyebrow at my desperate, weeping sister.
Olivia held the crumpled piece of paper high in the cold air, her hand shaking wildly in the blinding floodlights.
"Dad gave me this deed yesterday, and it has my sister's signature right here on the bottom line!"
She proudly pointed a trembling finger to a scrawled signature written in bright blue ink.
"This legally proves she gave us explicit permission to take over the property and live here."
Michael calmly walked over to Olivia and gently took the paper from her freezing, trembling fingers.
He pulled a small reading light from his coat pocket and examined the document closely in the dark.
From my apartment in San Diego, I watched the high-definition camera feed with absolute amusement.
They really thought they could casually forge a federal military officer's legal signature and get away with it.
Michael looked up from the paper and sighed deeply, shaking his head in sheer disbelief.
"Olivia, did you personally witness your sister sign this exact legal document?" Michael asked clearly.
Olivia hesitated for a fraction of a terrifying second before nodding vigorously.
"Yes, I watched her sign it right before she packed her military duffel bag and left the house," she lied smoothly.
Michael turned slowly to the imposing SWAT commander standing right beside him.
"Please add felony forgery and providing false statements to federal officers to her list of charges."
Olivia’s face completely drained of all remaining color, turning completely pale in the snow.
"What are you talking about, that is her signature!" she stammered defensively, stepping backward.
Michael held the forged document up to the blinding police floodlights for everyone to see.
"My client has been legally and medically documented as left-handed her entire life."
"This signature was clearly executed by a right-handed person with a completely different, heavier stroke pressure."
"Furthermore, my client was actively deployed on a classified naval vessel during the exact date stamped on this notary seal."
Olivia realized with crushing dread that she had just willingly walked directly into a massive federal perjury trap.
An officer forcefully grabbed her arms and slammed the cold steel handcuffs roughly onto her wrists.
She began to scream uncontrollably, begging her unconscious mother to wake up and save her from the police.
As they hauled Olivia away to the transport van, Michael looked directly into the porch security camera.
He gave me a subtle, victorious nod, acknowledging that the trap had worked perfectly.

Suddenly, the automated smart-home system broadcasted a new, deeply terrifying alarm through the exterior speakers.
"Critical thermal event detected in the basement mechanical room."
