Chapter 9 - The Last Assassin

The man standing in the doorway wore a dark tactical uniform that completely lacked any official police insignia.

He raised a suppressed submachine gun and aimed it directly at Detective Cole's back.

I screamed a desperate warning, but the assassin pulled the trigger before Cole could even reach for his holster.

The suppressed weapon made a series of terrifying clicking sounds as three bullets struck Cole in his bulletproof vest.

The force of the impact threw the detective backward, sending him crashing through a glass medical cart.

Rebecca reacted with lightning speed, drawing her concealed pistol and firing twice at the assassin's chest.

The assassin stumbled backward into the hallway, his own body armor absorbing the lethal shots.

"Get Sarah out of the bed right now!" Rebecca yelled, providing covering fire through the open doorway.

I grabbed my sister's arm, completely ignoring her groans of pain, and dragged her onto the cold linoleum floor.

We crawled frantically toward the small, attached bathroom while bullets shredded the hospital room walls.

The cartel had sent one final hitman to eliminate us before the federal indictments could be officially processed.

Detective Cole groaned from the floor, pulled his service weapon, and fired wildly toward the hallway to buy us time.

I dragged Sarah into the bathroom and slammed the heavy wooden door shut, locking it with a trembling hand.

Chloe was completely paralyzed with fear, so I forcefully pulled her into the dry bathtub to hide.

The sound of intense gunfire echoed through the room outside, followed by the terrifying sound of heavy footsteps approaching our door.

The assassin kicked the bathroom door violently, splintering the wood near the lock on the very first strike.

I frantically searched the small bathroom for anything I could use as a weapon to defend my sister and my friend.

My eyes locked onto a heavy, metal oxygen tank strapped to a rolling cart in the corner of the room.

I grabbed the tank, unscrewed the pressure valve completely, and aimed the nozzle directly at the cracking door.

The assassin kicked the door a second time, completely shattering the frame and stepping into the small bathroom.

He raised his weapon to fire, but I aggressively smashed the heavy metal tank directly into his face.

The brutal impact broke his nose instantly, and the highly pressurized oxygen hissed loudly into the cramped space.

Rebecca suddenly appeared behind him in the doorway, holding a sparking police taser she had grabbed from Cole's belt.

She slammed the taser directly into the assassin's neck, sending thousands of volts through his body.

Because the room was completely flooded with pure oxygen from the tank, the taser spark ignited instantly.

A massive flash of fire engulfed the assassin's tactical gear, forcing him to drop his weapon and scream in agony.
