Chapter 9 - The Price of Freedom

The FBI dispatcher listened intently as I laid out the massive financial crimes committed by my parents.
I provided specific dates, forged document tracking numbers, and undeniable proof of decades of severe tax evasion.
I conveniently left out any mention of Victor, his armed men, or the corrupt local police officers currently standing on my porch.
The federal agent on the phone promised that a heavily armed tactical raid team would be at the lake house within thirty minutes.
I ended the call and handed the encrypted phone back to Victor with a polite, professional nod.
Victor instructed his men to wipe down every surface in the house to ensure they left absolutely no fingerprints behind.
He looked at my family, who were all huddled together on the floor, shivering in complete terror.
Victor told them that if they ever mentioned his name or the syndicate to the FBI, he would torture them in prison.
My father nodded frantically, promising to accept the federal fraud charges in complete silence.
Victor turned to me, his dark eyes filled with a strange, undeniable sense of genuine respect.
He told me that I was far too brilliant and ruthless to be related to such pathetic, cowardly people.
Victor and his men quietly slipped out the back door, disappearing into the dark forest just before the sirens began to wail in the distance.
Ten minutes later, the front door was kicked completely off its hinges by a massive federal SWAT team.
Dozens of agents swarmed the living room, aiming assault rifles equipped with blinding tactical lights.
I raised my hands calmly and identified myself as the whistleblower who had called in the tip.
The agents aggressively tackled my father and Mark to the ground, securing their wrists with heavy steel handcuffs.
My mother tried to dramatically fake a fainting spell, but a female agent simply dragged her to her feet by her expensive hair.
Vanessa sobbed uncontrollably as an agent read her the Miranda rights, fully explaining the severe federal forgery charges against her.
I handed the lead FBI investigator the thick folder of physical evidence, securing their complete legal destruction.
The investigator thanked me for my cooperation and assured me that my parents would be facing a minimum of twenty years behind bars.
I watched with absolute, unadulterated satisfaction as my entire toxic family was shoved roughly into the back of armored federal transport vans.
The massive lake house was entirely empty once again, completely purged of the horrible monsters who tried to ruin my life.

I walked out the front door, breathed in the fresh lake air, and finally felt an incredible, overwhelming sense of total freedom.
I climbed into my car and drove away from the property, never planning to look back at this town ever again.
