Chapter 6 - The Devil's Bargain

The corrupt officer slowly lowered his weapon and patted me down for hidden firearms.

He grabbed my arm roughly and dragged me up the porch steps, throwing me through the front door.

I stumbled into my old living room, landing hard on the expensive hardwood floor.

Victor sat comfortably on my white leather sofa, smoking a thick cigar and admiring the view of the lake.

He looked down at me and smiled a terrifying, gold-toothed smile.

He praised me for being brave enough to walk straight into a slaughterhouse.

My father looked up at me with swollen, purple eyes and desperately begged me to save his life.

Vanessa was sobbing hysterically, screaming that this was all my fault for selling the house to a monster.

I completely ignored my pathetic family and locked eyes with Victor.

I held up the silver flash drive and told him that it contained the exact routing numbers to my father's hidden offshore fortune.

Victor's eyes narrowed with extreme interest, and he ordered his men to bring him a laptop.

He plugged the drive into the computer and quickly verified that the accounts were entirely legitimate.

Victor nodded in approval and stated that the money would certainly cover the principal debt.

However, he coldly added that twenty years of stolen freedom still required a massive payment in blood.

He pulled a heavy, silver revolver from his jacket pocket and pointed it directly at my father's head.

I stepped carefully between the gun and my weeping father.

I reminded Victor that if he murdered a family in this house, the federal authorities would swarm the entire county.

I explained that the FBI does not take bribes like the local police, and they would absolutely dismantle his entire syndicate.

Victor slowly lowered the hammer on his revolver, acknowledging that my legal logic was completely sound.

He asked me what kind of alternative punishment I was proposing for the man who ruined his life.

I told Victor that he could take every single penny from the offshore accounts immediately.

But in exchange for their lives, I wanted to absolutely destroy my family legally, financially, and publicly.

I promised Victor that I would ensure my father spent the rest of his miserable life rotting in a federal prison.

Victor smiled wickedly and agreed to the deal, but he demanded to know exactly how I planned to execute this flawless revenge.

Before I could answer, the front door burst open and my mother walked inside, holding a bag of groceries.

She dropped the grocery bag in pure horror as she saw the armed men surrounding her bound family.
