Chapter 9 - THE ARREST

I watched the raid from the war room screens, miles away.

The FBI Hostage Rescue Team swarmed the estate. They found the cartel bodies, the illegal weapons, and a mountain of digital evidence Miller had conveniently planted on Marcus's servers.

Marcus and Beatrice were dragged out of their home in handcuffs. The media was already there, tipped off by Miller. News helicopters circled overhead, their spotlights illuminating Beatrice Vance as she wept in a dirty nightgown, her flawless reputation utterly shattered on live television.

The charges were staggering: Money laundering, conspiracy to commit domestic terrorism, wire fraud, kidnapping, and severe assault.

The judge denied bail. The Vance family assets were entirely seized by the federal government under RICO laws. The mansion was to be auctioned off. Their cars were impounded.

They had gone from the apex of Maryland high society to federal inmates facing multiple life sentences, all in a span of four days.

They had sought to break an innocent woman to steal a fortune that didn't exist. Instead, they had awoken a beast that had systematically dismantled every single aspect of their lives with terrifying, military precision.

I watched the live news feed of Marcus being loaded into a prison transport van. He looked directly at one of the news cameras. In his eyes, I could see he finally understood the lesson.

You never touch a soldier's family.
