Chapter 8 - THE SIEGE

Inside the grand foyer, Marcus and Beatrice were screaming. They had heard the glass shatter and realized the cartel had arrived.
I stepped through the shattered patio door, entering the dark kitchen. Three cartel sicarios were sweeping the hallway. I engaged immediately. A brutal, close-quarters firefight erupted in the dark.
I used the architecture of the house against them, moving fluidly from cover to cover. I disarmed the first man, using his body as a shield as his partner fired a wild burst that tore through the expensive marble countertops. I returned fire, neutralizing the remaining two threats with clinical precision.
The house fell silent, save for the smell of cordite and the sound of Marcus sobbing hysterically in the living room.
I reloaded my weapon and walked into the living room.
Marcus and Beatrice were cowering behind a grand piano. When they saw a figure stepping out of the shadows, covered in tactical gear and holding an assault rifle, Beatrice began to scream for her life.
I reached up and pulled my night-vision goggles up, revealing my face.
Marcus's jaw dropped. The sheer terror in his eyes was absolute.
"You..." Marcus whispered, shaking so hard he could barely speak. "You saved us..."
"I didn't save you," I said, my voice devoid of any mercy. "I just reserved the right to destroy you myself."
I heard the distant, wailing sirens of law enforcement echoing over the hills. I had Miller call the FBI tactical units ten minutes ago.
May you like
"The FBI is two minutes away," I said, looking down at the pathetic monsters who had tortured my daughter. "The cartel wants you dead. The feds want you in prison. You have absolutely nothing left."
I turned my back on them and walked out the front door, vanishing into the night just as the first armored police cruisers smashed through the front gates.
