Chapter 10 - The Sanctuary

One Year Later.

The morning sun cast a golden glow over the lush, green fields of the property.

I stood on the wraparound porch, holding a mug of hot coffee, breathing in the fresh, clean air.

I hadn't returned to the ten-million-dollar estate in the city. The memories there were too tainted, the halls too empty. Instead, I had sold the mansion and liquidated the city assets.

With the funds, I had poured my heart into the Miller ranch.

The broken walls had been rebuilt. The rusted roof was replaced with sleek, durable copper. The overgrown weeds had been transformed into a sprawling, beautiful botanical garden. It was no longer a symbol of Arthur's imprisonment; it was a testament to his legacy.

Thomas Hayes walked up the pristine gravel driveway, tipping his hat to me. I had promoted him to estate manager, doubling his salary and ensuring he would never have to worry about his retirement.

"Morning, Mrs. Vance," Thomas smiled warmly. "The new greenhouse is finished. Arthur would have loved it."

"He would have," I agreed, a soft, genuine smile touching my lips for the first time in a long time.

I walked down the porch steps and strolled toward the edge of the property. Underneath a massive, ancient oak tree, a simple stone bench sat overlooking the valley. Carved into the backrest were Arthur's words: Love is the only legacy that lasts.

The villains were locked in concrete cells, their names disgraced, their greed turned to ashes.

But out here, under the open sky, Arthur and I had finally found our peace. I sat on the bench, closing my eyes, and listened to the wind rustle through the leaves, knowing that justice had been served, and the empire was exactly where it belonged.
