Chapter 9 - The Ashes of Silver Street

I tackled Julian with the force of a speeding freight train.
We crashed heavily into the steel wall of the vault, denting the solid metal panels.
Julian fought wildly, throwing frantic punches that connected blindly with my ribs.
I didn't feel the pain anymore.
I grabbed him by the throat and slammed the back of his head brutally against the concrete floor.
His eyes rolled back, and he went entirely limp.
I left him unconscious on the floor and rushed over to Audrey.
I used my knife to slice rapidly through the thick plastic ties binding her wrists and ankles.
She collapsed into my arms, sobbing uncontrollably against my chest.
"I've got you, sweetheart," I whispered, holding her tighter than I ever had before. "You're safe now."
We walked slowly out of the vault, stepping carefully over Arthur Thorne's groaning body in the hallway.
The sounds of heavy police sirens were deafening as we finally reached the main stairs.
We emerged into the front foyer just as a heavily armed SWAT team kicked the front doors wide open.
Red and blue emergency lights flashed brilliantly through the pouring rain outside.
The real state police poured into the mansion, immediately securing the dangerous area.
"Hands in the air!" the lead officer shouted, aiming his rifle at us.
"I'm David Vance's old partner, from the Attorney General's office," I yelled clearly, keeping my hands high.
"My daughter is the hostage."
The police lowered their weapons and quickly ushered us out into the freezing rain.
Paramedics immediately wrapped a thick silver blanket around Audrey's trembling shoulders.
I sat heavily on the bumper of the ambulance, watching the police drag a handcuffed Arthur and Julian out of the house.
Detective Vance was arrested and placed in the back of an unmarked cruiser.
The nightmare was finally over.
I looked at Audrey, wiping a mixture of rain and blood from my exhausted face.
May you like
"It's over," I told her softly. "They can never hurt you again."
Audrey looked up at the massive mansion, her expression suddenly changing entirely.
