Chapter 6 - The Confession

Lewis locked the front door behind him, keeping the gun trained unsteadily on Chloe’s chest.

His tailored suit was wrinkled, and his slicked-back hair was a mess.

The polished, perfect gentleman had been replaced by a desperate, cornered animal.

"Sign the papers, Chloe," Lewis ordered, his hand shaking violently.

"My mother told me what happened at the marina, and we are not playing games anymore."

Robert slowly stepped in front of Chloe, using his own body as a human shield.

"Put the gun down, son," Robert said in a low, authoritative tone.

"If you pull that trigger, my security team outside will tear you to pieces before you reach the elevator."

Lewis let out a frantic, breathless laugh.

"I don't care anymore!" he screamed.

"Your little stunt with the FBI ruined my reputation, so now I am taking the condo and the cash to disappear."

I slowly moved my hand toward the heavy marble rolling pin resting on the kitchen counter.

"You never loved me," Chloe whispered from behind her father, her voice breaking.

"You just wanted the money."

Lewis glared at her with absolute disgust.

"Of course I didn't love you," he spat venomously.

"You are a weak, pathetic little girl who was nothing more than a stepping stone for my family."

He waved the gun toward the kitchen table.

"Sign the damn transfer deed right now, or I will shoot your mother first."

Lewis pointed the barrel directly at my face.

My heart hammered against my ribs, but I kept my eyes locked onto his, refusing to show fear.

Suddenly, a loud, sharp siren began blaring from Chloe's cell phone on the table.

Lewis flinched at the sudden noise, his eyes darting toward the phone.

In that split second of distraction, Robert lunged forward.

He grabbed Lewis’s wrist and violently twisted it backward.

A deafening gunshot echoed through the small kitchen, shattering the sliding glass balcony door.

Lewis screamed in pain as the gun clattered to the floor.

Robert pinned him against the refrigerator, driving his forearm into the younger man's throat.

I grabbed the handgun from the floor and backed away, aiming it squarely at Lewis's chest.

"You recorded everything, didn't you, baby?" Robert gasped, looking over his shoulder at Chloe.

Chloe held up her phone, the screen showing a live, ongoing audio recording.

"I got him confessing to the extortion, the fake charges, and the fact that he never loved me," she said bravely.

"It is automatically uploading to a secure cloud server."

Lewis struggled against Robert's grip, his face turning purple.

"My mother will still leak the documents about your illegal arms deals!" Lewis choked out.

"Let her," Robert growled, pressing harder against his throat.

"I would rather rot in a federal cell than let a piece of trash like you hurt my daughter."

Suddenly, the front door of the apartment burst open with a loud crash.

Victoria Dudley marched into the room, flanked by two massive armed men wearing dark ski masks.
