Chapter 9 - The Foreclosure Party

The cartel hitmen vanished into the night, leaving Sylvia sobbing uncontrollably on my kitchen floor.

I kicked her out of my apartment and immediately called my private security team to repair my front door.

The next morning, I learned that Marcus had somehow managed to post a massive cash bail using our parents' remaining assets.

He was foolishly out of jail and trying to pretend his life was not completely collapsing around him.

To save face with his wealthy neighbors, Marcus decided to host a lavish afternoon garden party at his sprawling mansion.

He wanted to prove to the world that he was still powerful and entirely untouchable.

I dressed in my sharpest, most expensive tailored business suit and told Daniel we were going for a ride.

My security convoy drove us directly to Marcus's affluent, gated neighborhood.

I walked onto his manicured back lawn, where dozens of high-society guests were drinking expensive champagne.

Marcus was standing by the pool, laughing loudly and pretending he wasn't running from the cartel.

He saw me approach and his fake smile instantly vanished into a scowl of pure hatred.

"Who let you in here, Elena?" Marcus hissed, stepping away from his wealthy friends to confront me.

"I do not need an invitation to walk onto my own property, Marcus," I replied loudly enough for the guests to hear.

The music stopped, and the guests turned to stare at us in confusion.

"This is my house, you crazy bitch!" Marcus yelled, completely losing his temper in front of his peers.

I snapped my fingers, and my lead attorney walked through the garden gate holding a thick stack of legal documents.

Right behind him was the county sheriff, looking very serious and fully uniformed.

"I bought the debt on this house six months ago, Marcus, and you have defaulted on every single payment," I announced to the silent crowd.

"Sheriff, please execute the immediate foreclosure and eviction order," I commanded gracefully.

The sheriff stepped forward and handed Marcus the official eviction notice.

"You have exactly ten minutes to vacate the premises, Mr. Vance," the sheriff stated firmly.

The high-society guests gasped in shock, immediately placing their champagne glasses down and rushing toward the exits to avoid the scandal.

Marcus's perfect, carefully crafted image was completely and utterly shattered in front of the exact people he wanted to impress.

He fell to his knees on the pool deck, weeping openly as the sheriff began locking the doors to his mansion.

"You ruined me, Elena!" Marcus screamed, his voice breaking in total despair.

"You ruined yourself when you decided to be cruel to my innocent child," I corrected him.

As the deputies dragged a sobbing Marcus toward the street, he suddenly started laughing like a maniac.

"You think you won, Elena, but you have no idea who Daniel's real father actually is!" Marcus screamed over his shoulder.
