Chapter 1 - The First Domino

I stared at the glowing screen of my laptop in the dark kitchen.

The email to my brother Marcus was ready to go.

I attached the bank certified documents proving I had paid off the business loan four years ago.

I also attached a second document that Marcus had no idea existed.

My finger hovered over the send button for only a second before I pressed it down.

I closed the laptop and waited in the quiet apartment.

Exactly three minutes later, my phone began to vibrate violently across the table.

Marcus's name flashed on the screen.

I answered it without saying a word.

"What is this garbage you just sent me, Elena?" Marcus yelled through the speaker.

"It is the truth, Marcus," I said calmly.

"You faked these bank records because you are humiliated that I put your brat in his place today," he sneered.

"Daniel is a child, and you are a bully," I replied.

Marcus let out a cruel, barking laugh.

"You think you can play games with me just because you printed some fake papers?" he asked.

"I am going to call your landlord tomorrow morning and have you and your kid thrown out on the street," Marcus threatened.

"I know the owner of your crumbling apartment building, and he owes me a favor," he added.

I leaned back in my chair and took a sip of cold water.

"You cannot call my landlord, Marcus," I whispered.

"Watch me," he growled.

"You cannot call the landlord, because I bought this entire building three years ago under a corporate trust," I said.

Silence fell heavily over the phone line.

"And if you looked closely at the second document I attached, you would realize something else," I continued.

"What are you talking about?" Marcus demanded, his voice suddenly shaking.

"I do not just own my building, Marcus," I said.

"I bought the debt on your massive house six months ago, making me your bank."
