Chapter 1 - The Arrival

The entire ballroom went completely silent when Emmett Stewart walked through the grand oak doors.
His presence commanded the room instantly, making the crystal chandeliers seem dim by comparison.
Nicholas practically shoved his new bride aside to sprint across the polished marble floor.
"Mr. Stewart, it is an absolute honor to have you at my wedding," Nicholas gushed with a trembling smile.
Emmett did not even look at him.
Instead, the billionaire's sharp gaze scanned the crowd until his eyes locked onto Table Nineteen in the far corner.
Nicholas frantically tried to step into his line of sight, babbling about a new investment strategy he wanted to pitch.
Emmett gently but firmly pushed my brother out of his way without saying a single word.
The crowd parted like the red sea as the most powerful man in the room walked straight toward the kids' table.
I was still holding a green crayon when he pulled up a tiny plastic chair and sat down right next to me.
"You ignored my emails, Jenna," Emmett said, his deep voice carrying perfectly through the silent room.
My mother gasped loud enough for the entire hall to hear.
"I was busy coloring a dragon for Parker," I replied calmly, not breaking eye contact.
Emmett reached over, picked up a cold chicken nugget from a paper plate, and took a casual bite.
Nicholas finally caught up to us, his face pale and dripping with nervous sweat.
"Mr. Stewart, I apologize for my sister, please let me escort you to the VIP table," Nicholas pleaded.
Emmett wiped his hands with a cheap paper napkin and finally looked directly at my brother.
"I don't sit with people who are currently under federal investigation, Nicholas," Emmett said coldly.
My brother's jaw dropped as murmurs of shock rippled through the wealthy crowd.

Emmett pulled a thick legal document from his tailored jacket and dropped it right onto the crayon drawings.
"I just bought your entire company, Nicholas, and my first order of business is firing you."
