Chapter 6 - The Decoy

Caleb stared at the flashing red screen in absolute despair.
The entire security system was hardwired to his father's personal biometric data.
Without his father's fingerprint, the signal jammers would never shut down.
Malik paced nervously around the glowing server racks, running his hands over his head.
"We are totally dead, Caleb, nobody knows we are down here."
Caleb closed his eyes, trying to remember the blueprints he had seen on his dad's desk years ago.
"There is a manual override switch, a physical breaker box that kills the power to the jammers," Caleb remembered.
"Where is it?" Malik demanded.
"It is in the basement, right next to the old boiler room."
They sneaked out of the server room and peered down the long, deserted hallway.
The red emergency lights cast long, terrifying shadows across the lockers.
Security cameras mounted on the ceiling rotated slowly, tracking their exact location.
"The tactical guards know we are here now," Caleb said grimly.
He looked at Malik and pointed toward the stairwell at the end of the hall.
"You have to go to the basement and flip the breaker switch while I distract them."
Malik hesitated, realizing Caleb was offering to sacrifice himself.
"They will kill you, Caleb."
"They won't shoot the boss's son right away, they need me for leverage," Caleb lied, trying to sound brave.
Caleb didn't wait for Malik to argue.
He sprinted out into the middle of the main corridor, waving his arms and screaming at the top of his lungs.
Three armed men in tactical gear immediately stepped out from the cafeteria double doors.
They raised their assault rifles and pointed the laser sights directly at Caleb's chest.
Caleb dove behind a thick concrete pillar just as a hail of bullets completely shattered the glass trophy case behind him.
He covered his head, waiting for the men to flank him and finish the job.
But the shooting suddenly stopped, replaced by the sickening sound of heavy impacts and groans.
Caleb cautiously peeked around the edge of the bullet-riddled concrete pillar.

The three armed guards were not shooting at Caleb anymore.
They were unconscious on the floor, and a tall shadow was standing over them holding a bloody wrench.
