Chapter 2 - The Stolen Sight

Anaëlle could not stop her hands from shaking after his terrifying confession.

She kept playing the piano because she had absolutely no other choice.

The loud music was specifically supposed to mask the horrifying sounds upstairs.

Every time a heavy thud echoed above, she forced herself to press the keys much harder.

The silk blindfold was beginning to slip from the cold sweat on her forehead.

She did not dare lift a single finger to adjust it.

She knew the man was sitting quietly in a leather chair directly behind her.

The scent of his expensive cigar smoke filled the massive, grand room.

The silk fabric slid down just a fraction of an inch over her nose.

A thin sliver of light suddenly appeared at the very bottom of her vision.

She kept her eyes firmly locked on the black and white keys to avoid punishment.

"You are doing very well," the deep voice praised her from the dark shadows.

"How much longer do I have to play this piece?" she asked with a trembling voice.

"Until the screaming completely stops," he answered with chilling, absolute calmness.

Anaëlle felt a warm tear roll slowly down her pale cheek.

She looked slightly upward, utilizing the small gap under the loose silk blindfold.

The highly polished black surface of the piano acted exactly like a dark mirror.

She could clearly see the reflection of the room behind her.

There was absolutely no leather chair in the room.

The man was not sitting down at all.

He was standing right behind her with a suppressed pistol aimed directly at the hallway doorway.

Suddenly, the grand double doors burst violently open.

A heavily wounded man stumbled into the room, gasping desperately for air.

Anaëlle gasped loudly and slammed her fingers onto the wrong keys again.

The horrible dissonant sound shattered the heavy tension in the room.

The boss immediately fired a single, flawless shot, dropping the bloody intruder instantly.

He walked over to the piano and aggressively ripped the blindfold off her face.

"I told you there would be a severe price for another mistake," he growled.

He grabbed her chin forcefully, forcing her to look directly at the dead man on the floor.

"Do you recognize your brother's best friend?" he asked with absolute coldness.
