Chapter 10 - The Legacy

The heavy iron storm cover rattled loudly before finally being pushed aside by Leo and his mother.

They spilled out onto the wet, illuminated pavement of the city street, gasping heavily for fresh, untainted air.

Red and blue police lights were already flashing wildly at the end of the block, illuminating the rainy night sky.

Grandpa Henry had secretly triggered a silent alarm hours ago, and a massive SWAT team was currently swarming the family estate.

Officers quickly rushed over to help them, wrapping them in warm thermal blankets and calling aggressively for emergency paramedics.

A few minutes later, heavily armed officers dragged a handcuffed, furious Uncle Richard out of the sewer, followed closely by a limping but smiling Thomas.

Aunt Martha and the corrupt security contractors were already sitting in the back of several police cruisers, completely defeated.

Leo sat on the back bumper of an ambulance, clutching the incredibly important master ledger safely against his chest.

Grandpa Henry sat right next to him, placing a warm, comforting hand on the young boy's tired shoulder.

"You did it, Leo," Henry said proudly, a genuine smile breaking through his exhausted, bruised features.

"You saved our family's true legacy, and you stopped them from ruining everything I built," the old man whispered gratefully.

Leo's mother hugged them both tightly, crying tears of actual joy and profound relief that the nightmare was finally over.

The core conflict was completely resolved; the bad guys were going to prison, and the family wealth was finally safe in the right hands.

They were free, they were incredibly rich, and most importantly, they were safely together again as a real family.

Several days later, Leo was sitting comfortably in his new, highly secure bedroom when he felt a strange buzzing.

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a sleek, black smartphone that definitely did not belong to him.

He unlocked the screen, his blood running completely cold as he read the single, chilling text message displayed there.

"Henry isn't your real grandfather, and the real owners of that money are coming to collect it," the unknown message read.
