Chapter 10 - The Syndicate

I stared at the locked metal door for hours.
The man I had called to save me from a monster had actually been the architect of my entire nightmare.
Elias hadn't rescued me out of familial love.
He had orchestrated my suffering to forge me into a weapon for his criminal syndicate.
My cancer was a lie, my marriage was a trap, and my freedom was entirely an illusion.
I walked into the adjoining private bathroom and stared at myself in the mirror.
My body was scarred, my spirit was broken, and I was locked inside an underground fortress.
But as I looked at my reflection, I realized something that Elias had completely overlooked.
He wanted to make me ruthless, cold, and entirely unforgiving.
He had succeeded flawlessly.
I walked back into the bedroom and picked up the tablet Elias had left behind to monitor Garrick's arrest.
Elias thought I was technologically incompetent, a weak housewife who didn't understand modern systems.
But during my five years of marriage, I had secretly managed all the secure digital routing for Garrick's church network.
I quickly bypassed the tablet's basic security protocols and accessed Elias's internal server.
I didn't try to call the police, because the police couldn't touch a man like my brother.
Instead, I opened the encrypted financial ledger that detailed every illegal transaction Elias had made over the last decade.
I found the exact routing numbers for the cartel accounts he managed.
With a few keystrokes, I initiated a massive, irreversible wire transfer.
I drained fifty million dollars from Elias's primary cartel holding account and sent it directly to a dozen untraceable international charities.
The cartel wouldn't just be angry with him.
They would actively hunt him down and destroy everything he had ever built.
I hit the enter key, watching the progress bar fill up until the money completely vanished from his system.
I smiled, finally feeling a genuine sense of absolute power.
I sat down on the edge of the bed, waiting peacefully for Elias to realize what I had just done.
Ten minutes later, the heavy metal door violently burst open.
Elias stood in the doorway, his face pale with absolute terror, completely abandoning his calm demeanor.
"What did you just do?" he screamed, raising his gun directly at my head.
I looked at him calmly and gave him the exact same cold smile he had given me.

"I took my rightful place in the family business, brother."
Before he could pull the trigger, the reinforced concrete ceiling above us exploded violently inward, raining heavy debris across the entire room.
