Chapter 4 - The Fake Results

Forty-eight hours later, the results arrived.

Elena was sitting in the private library of Silas Vance’s sprawling penthouse.

The baby was sleeping soundly in a bassinet nearby.

Silas poured two glasses of sparkling water and set one on the table in front of her.

“Julian is currently holding a press conference outside his corporate headquarters,” Silas noted.

“He married Chloe yesterday afternoon.”

“Now he is preparing to announce the arrival of his male heir to boost his stock prices.”

Elena felt sick to her stomach.

Julian was treating her child like a corporate acquisition.

The heavy oak doors of the library opened.

Silas’s chief legal counsel walked in, carrying the sealed laboratory report.

“The judge just unsealed the results, Mr. Vance,” the lawyer said.

“Julian Sterling's legal team has a copy as well.”

Elena’s hands shook as she reached for the document.

She ripped open the seal.

She scanned the complex medical jargon, looking for the final conclusion.

Her eyes locked onto the bold black text at the bottom of the page.

Probability of Paternity: 0.00%.

Elena stopped breathing.

The paper slipped from her fingers and fluttered to the Persian rug.

“Zero percent,” she whispered.

She looked up at Silas, her mind completely short-circuiting.

“That is impossible.”

“It is a certified, court-ordered test,” Silas stated calmly.

“I was faithful to him for five years!” Elena cried out.

“I never touched another man!”

“The only way I got pregnant was through the IVF treatments we started before the divorce!”

Silas picked up the paper from the floor.

“Julian is not the father, Elena.”

“Did Julian bribe the lab?” she panicked.

“Did he fake the results to humiliate me and ruin my reputation?”

Silas shook his head slowly.

“Julian is currently destroying his own office in a blind rage.”

“He thought he had an heir, and now he looks like a fool in front of his new wife and his board.”

“Then how is this possible?” Elena begged.

“If I only used Julian's genetic material at the clinic, how can this baby not be his?”

Silas took a slow sip of his water.

“Because Julian Sterling is completely sterile.”

Elena froze.

“Sterile?”

“He has known for ten years, Elena.”

“He let you endure countless painful hormone injections to cover up his own inadequacy.”

Elena felt the entire room spin.

Julian had blamed her for their fertility issues.

He had called her broken.

“If Julian is sterile,” Elena breathed, looking toward the bassinet.

“Then whose baby is sleeping in that crib?”
