Chapter 1 - The Revelation

The symphony of high society on his end seemed to instantly evaporate.

“Excuse me?” Julian asked.

His voice had dropped an octave.

The smugness was completely gone.

It was replaced by a sharp, sudden edge of panic.

Elena looked down at the tiny, perfect face of her son.

She traced the soft curve of his cheek with her index finger.

“I said I am in the maternity ward, Julian.”

“That is not a funny joke, Elena.”

“I am not laughing.”

“You are infertile.”

“Your doctors said I was infertile.”

“You are lying.”

“I have a seven-pound, four-ounce boy resting on my chest.”

The sound of a heavy door slamming echoed through the phone.

Julian was no longer in the cathedral vestibule.

He was moving.

“Whose is it?” he demanded.

“He is mine.”

“If you are trying to trap me on my wedding day, it will not work.”

“I didn't call you, Julian.”

“I am sending my lawyers to that hospital right now.”

“They won't get past the front desk.”

“I am the CEO of Sterling Enterprises.”

“And you are legally a stranger to me.”

Elena tapped the red button on the screen.

The call ended.

She let out a long, shaky breath.

Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird.

She knew Julian Sterling better than anyone.

He would not send his lawyers.

He would come himself.

His ego would never allow a child that might carry his bloodline to exist outside his absolute control.

The heavy wooden door to her VIP recovery suite suddenly clicked open.

Elena gasped and pulled the gray swaddle tighter around her son.

But the man who stepped into the room was not Julian.

He was significantly taller, dressed in a bespoke midnight-blue suit, and carrying a cup of dark coffee.

His slate-gray eyes locked onto hers with terrifying intensity.

“He is on his way,” the man said smoothly.

Elena stared at the ruthless billionaire who had been funding her legal battles in secret for six months.

“Silas,” she whispered.

Silas Vance locked the hospital door behind him and took a seat beside her bed.

“Let him come, Elena,” Silas smiled.

“Because he is about to find out whose name is on the birth certificate.”
