Chapter 8 - The Tunnel of Shadows

I desperately grabbed a heavy steel crowbar from a nearby tool rack and smashed the locking mechanism of the maintenance grate.
The thick iron shattered under the immense force, allowing me to dive recklessly into the dark, echoing tunnels below.
The air smelled strongly of raw sewage and stagnant water, making the damp environment incredibly difficult to navigate.
I sprinted blindly through the pitch-black corridors, completely ignoring the painful cuts and bruises covering my body.
I could hear Lily's muffled cries echoing faintly off the curved concrete walls, guiding me deeper into the maze.
I finally emerged into a massive, cavernous storm drain that emptied directly into the fast-flowing city river.
Elias was struggling to drag Lily onto a sleek, powerful speedboat moored at the edge of the rushing water.
"Let her go, Elias!" I roared, pulling a discarded pistol I had retrieved from the loading dock.
Elias spun around in complete panic, completely abandoning his grip on my terrified daughter.
I did not hesitate for a single second, firing a perfectly aimed shot that struck Elias squarely in his right shoulder.
The traitor screamed in agonizing pain, stumbling backward against the sleek hull of the expensive boat.
Lily wisely dropped to the concrete floor and crawled rapidly away from the bleeding billionaire.
Elias clutched his bleeding shoulder, his eyes burning with absolute, unrestrained hatred.
"If I do not get everything, Nathan, then you get absolutely nothing," Elias spat venomously.

He reached into his tailored pocket with his uninjured hand and pulled out the silver case containing the blue antidote vials.
Elias smiled maliciously, staring directly into my eyes as he threw the fragile glass case far out into the violent, raging river.
