Chapter 7 - The Impossible Trade

The vault doors slowly opened again, guarded by a dozen armed men waiting for my surrender.

I walked out slowly with my hands raised, carrying the thick leather ledger securely tucked under my arm.

The mercenaries escorted me roughly to the deserted loading docks at the rear of the corporate building.

Elias stood in the pouring rain, using his large body to shield himself while holding a terrified Lily closely against his chest.

The silver revolver was pressed firmly against the young girl's temple, completely removing any chance for me to attack.

"Toss the ledger onto the wet asphalt, Nathan," Elias ordered, his voice echoing loudly over the thunderstorm.

I threw the heavy book forward, watching it slide across the dark pavement until it stopped at his expensive leather shoes.

"I kept my end of the bargain, Elias, now let my daughter go," I demanded firmly, preparing to sprint forward.

Elias laughed maliciously, picking up the ledger and handing it to his heavily armed lieutenant.

"You really are as naive as you were when we started this company," the traitorous billionaire sneered.

Elias deliberately cocked the hammer of his revolver, making it painfully clear he had absolutely no intention of leaving survivors.

"Kill him," Elias commanded his men, stepping backward toward an armored transport vehicle.

I closed my eyes, fully prepared to absorb the incoming bullets if it meant I could somehow shield Lily.

Suddenly, a massive, deafening explosion ripped through the front gates of the corporate facility.

Three heavily armored federal tactical vehicles smashed violently into the loading dock courtyard.

Dozens of elite tactical agents swarmed the area, deploying flashbangs and returning heavy fire against the cartel mercenaries.

The chaotic distraction was perfect, completely shattering Elias's tactical advantage in seconds.

Elias panicked, dragging a screaming Lily away from the gunfire and toward a hidden maintenance hatch in the ground.

Before I could reach them, the heavy steel grate slammed shut, locking Elias and my daughter in the underground drainage tunnels.
