Chapter 5 - The Secret Key

The toxic green gas immediately burned my lungs and stung my eyes like hot needles.

Dr. Harrison stood safely behind a sealed glass partition, wearing a heavy military-grade gas mask.

I knew I had less than two minutes before the nerve agent completely paralyzed my respiratory system.

I grabbed a heavy, solid steel oxygen tank from the floor and swung it fiercely against the reinforced glass.

The thick glass spider-webbed, but it refused to shatter under the immense impact.

Lily began coughing violently, her small body trembling uncontrollably as she fell to her knees.

I let out a primal roar, swinging the heavy tank again with every single ounce of desperate strength I possessed.

The glass shattered into a million sparkling pieces, sending the doctor stumbling backward in pure shock.

I leaped through the broken window, tackling Dr. Harrison to the ground and ripping the gas mask from his treacherous face.

I punched him brutally until he lost consciousness, securing the safe medical control room for my family.

I quickly purged the ventilation system, replacing the toxic gas with clean, fresh oxygen.

Once Sarah and Lily were breathing normally again, I knew we had to leave the compromised clinic immediately.

We abandoned the stolen car and disappeared into the shadows, finally taking shelter in an abandoned, decaying motel on the edge of town.

I paced the filthy carpet, my mind racing with impossible scenarios to break into Elias's impenetrable vault.

Lily walked over to me quietly, holding the ruined piece of fabric she had been sewing earlier that afternoon.

"Mommy told me to hide this inside my stitches before she got too sick to talk," the brave little girl whispered.

She ripped the messy threads apart with her bare hands and pulled out a small, highly sophisticated electronic keycard.

I stared at the black titanium card in absolute disbelief, recognizing the encrypted corporate insignia engraved on its surface.

This was Elias's personal master key, the only item in the world capable of bypassing the vault's biometric scanners.

We finally had a real chance to steal the antidote and save the woman I loved.

But I knew the vault was guarded by the most ruthless, heavily armed mercenaries the cartel had to offer.
