Chapter 9 - The Traitor

The penthouse fell completely silent, the tension in the room thick enough to cut with a knife.

The medic slowly raised his hands in surrender, stepping away from the kitchen island.

Julian did not even flinch at the gun pressed to his skull.

"How much is Navarro paying you for this betrayal, Silas?" Julian asked in a bored, calm voice.

Silas laughed and cocked the hammer of his weapon.

"He promised me ten million dollars and my own territory in the south," Silas answered greedily.

Marisol realized that Silas was the one who had stared at her in the basement, knowing exactly who she was.

He had orchestrated the entire rescue just to earn Julian's trust and steal the chip when his guard was down.

"Toss the medallion on the floor, Julian," Silas ordered, his finger tightening on the trigger.

Julian slowly raised his hand, pretending to comply with the terrifying demand.

Instead of dropping the coin, Julian violently drove his elbow backward into Silas's throat.

The rifle fired wildly into the ceiling as Silas gagged and stumbled backward.

Julian spun around with blinding speed and tackled the massive traitor to the marble floor.

Despite his severe injuries and blood loss, Julian fought with the ferocity of a wild animal.

He managed to wrestle the rifle away and struck Silas across the jaw, knocking him completely unconscious.

Julian collapsed onto his back, gasping for air as the medic rushed forward to check his torn stitches.

Before they could even catch their breath, the penthouse security alarms began blaring loudly.

"Navarro's men just breached the lobby," the medic shouted, checking the security monitors.

"We have to fight our way to the roof and take the extraction chopper."

Marisol helped Julian to his feet, handing him his fallen pistol.

As they moved toward the hallway, Marisol’s cell phone rang again.

She answered it, expecting to hear Navarro making another cruel threat.

Instead, Mateo’s voice came clearly through the speaker, sounding entirely calm and uninjured.

"Marisol, whatever happens tonight, please do not come to the shipping yards," Mateo said softly before the line went dead.
