Chapter 7 - The Ransom

Marisol sat frozen in the swaying truck, her mind struggling to process the impossible truth.
Her father had died in what the police claimed was a random convenience store robbery five years ago.
Now, this mysterious syndicate boss was telling her that her father had actually died protecting him.
She wanted to scream and demand every single detail, but the truck suddenly stopped.
They had arrived at an underground parking garage beneath a luxury high-rise building.
Julian's men carried him into a private, heavily fortified penthouse on the top floor.
The medic placed Julian on the kitchen island and began preparing surgical tools to properly stitch the stab wound.
Marisol paced the length of the living room, staring out the massive windows at the city skyline.
Her mind was entirely focused on the old shipping yards at Pier 4 where Mateo was being held.
The lead rescuer walked into the room holding a ringing satellite phone.
He handed the device to Julian, who was currently gritting his teeth through the painful stitches.
Julian answered the phone and put it on speaker so everyone in the room could hear.
Navarro’s cruel, mocking voice echoed through the pristine penthouse.
"I hear you survived my little office surprise, Julian," Navarro laughed darkly.
"Let the boy go, Navarro, he has absolutely nothing to do with our war," Julian commanded coldly.
Navarro chuckled and the sound of someone being violently struck echoed over the line.
Marisol heard Mateo cry out in pain, and a murderous rage ignited deep inside her chest.
"I will trade the boy's life for one single item, Julian," Navarro stated plainly.
"Bring the silver medallion to Pier 4 in exactly one hour, and come completely alone."
Navarro hung up the phone, leaving a heavy, suffocating silence in the room.
Marisol looked at the bloody silver medallion resting on the kitchen counter beside Julian.
She turned to Julian, her eyes filled with desperate determination.
"Give me the medallion, and I will go make the trade myself," Marisol demanded.
May you like
Julian shook his head, his face pale but resolute.
"I cannot give you that medallion, Marisol, because it is not just a piece of jewelry," Julian revealed.
