Chapter 5 - The Boss's Office

The delivery truck slammed to a halt in the dark alley behind the commercial cleaning headquarters.

Marisol did not wait for the armed men to secure the perimeter.

She kicked the back doors open and marched directly toward the rear entrance of the building.

Julian limped closely behind her, a loaded pistol gripped tightly in his uninjured hand.

The lock on the metal door had already been forced open, leaving a deep scratch on the frame.

They moved silently through the dark hallway, smelling the familiar scent of industrial bleach.

Marisol pushed open the frosted glass door to her boss’s private office.

Her boss, a nervous man named Arthur, was tied securely to his own expensive leather chair.

He was sweating profusely and staring in absolute terror at a heavy metal box resting on his desk.

Arthur burst into tears the moment he saw Marisol standing in the doorway.

"I am so sorry, Marisol, they forced me to give them your schedule!" Arthur sobbed.

Marisol grabbed him by the collar of his expensive shirt, her eyes blazing with fury.

"Where did they take Mateo?" she screamed right into his face.

Arthur shook his head wildly, violently pulling against the ropes tying him down.

"Navarro said he took the boy to the old shipping yards at Pier 4," Arthur cried.

Julian stepped into the room and immediately noticed the metal box on the desk.

His eyes widened in sheer panic as he recognized the blinking red light on its surface.

"Marisol, step away from the desk right now," Julian ordered, his voice echoing with absolute authority.

Marisol looked down and finally noticed the digital timer wired to the metal box.

The glowing red numbers were counting down rapidly from ten seconds.

Navarro had intentionally left Arthur alive just to serve as bait for a deadly trap.

Julian grabbed Marisol by the waist and threw her bodily through the open office doorway just as the timer hit zero.
