Chapter 2 - The Forged Signature

The cold steel of the handcuffs bit into my wrists as the officers dragged me out of my own home.
I stared in absolute disbelief at the fraudulent document the detective had shoved in my face.
My signature was perfectly replicated at the bottom of the dangerous syndicate loan agreement.
I screamed that I had never signed anything and that my family had obviously forged my name.
The detective ignored my desperate pleas and pushed me roughly into the back of a waiting police cruiser.
I watched through the tinted window as my father and Julian were loaded into separate vehicles.
My father was actually smiling, displaying a sinister and victorious smirk that made my blood run completely cold.
He had orchestrated this entire scenario to ensure that I would take the fall if his violent plan failed.
The ride to the downtown precinct felt like a terrifying journey into an endless nightmare.
I was locked inside a small, windowless interrogation room that smelled of stale coffee and bleach.
My frail body shivered violently in the freezing air conditioning, my illness draining whatever strength I had left.
An hour later, the heavy metal door finally opened, and my attorney Marcus stepped into the room.
Marcus looked furious, his expensive suit wrinkled and his jaw clenched in absolute determination.
He immediately ordered the guards to remove my handcuffs, threatening them with massive civil rights lawsuits.
Marcus sat down across the metal table and handed me a cup of warm water.
He explained that the detective who arrested me was completely corrupt and secretly working for the cartel.
My father had apparently sold me out to the syndicate to clear his own massive debts, using Julian as a pathetic scapegoat.
The cartel was using their corrupt police contacts to force me to surrender my protected medical trust fund.
I realized with horror that the local police station was actually the most dangerous place I could possibly be.
Marcus pulled a small digital tablet from his briefcase and showed me a highly encrypted file.
He had spent the last hour hacking into my parents' personal financial records to find any possible leverage.
He discovered a series of hidden emails between my mother and a notorious underground crime boss.
My mother had not just forged my signature on the loan agreement to ruin my life.
She had also provided the cartel with my exact hospital treatment schedule and the layout of my recovery room.
She had actively planned to have me assassinated in my hospital bed so she could quietly collect my life insurance.
Before I could even process this horrific betrayal, the precinct fire alarm began to blare loudly.
Smoke started pouring into the interrogation room through the overhead ventilation shafts.

Marcus grabbed my arm, his eyes wide with sheer panic as the heavy electronic door suddenly locked from the outside.
We were completely trapped in a burning room, and someone had intentionally sealed us inside to die.
