Chapter 6 - The Digital Assassination

I sat in the back of my own heavily armored SUV, watching a live telemetry feed on an iPad. Back at the Glass Fortress, Clara was safely monitoring the situation with the rest of the security team.

Ten minutes after I left the hotel, the screen blinked green.

Connection Established. Payload Deployed.

Sterling had taken the bait.

"He's in, Julian," Clara's voice crackled over the secure comms, her tone thick with adrenaline. "The virus is bypassing his local firewalls. It's inside his main corporate server."

I watched as lines of code rapidly scrolled down the screen. This wasn't a standard hack; this was a digital assassination.

"Initiate Phase One," I ordered.

Within seconds, the virus began liquidating Sterling's offshore holdings. Billions of dollars, hidden in shell companies in the Cayman Islands and Switzerland, were systematically drained and anonymously donated to thousands of global charities. The money evaporated.

"Phase One complete. He's bleeding out," Marcus reported from the front seat. "Moving to Phase Two."

Phase Two was the kill shot. The virus compiled all of Sterling’s internal communications—emails, recorded calls, encrypted texts detailing his blackmail, extortion, and illegal market manipulations. In one massive data dump, the virus forwarded the entire cache simultaneously to the FBI, the SEC, the IRS, and the editors of every major news outlet in the country.

Suddenly, my iPad pinged. A video call request. It was Sterling.

I answered it.

Sterling’s face was purple with rage. He was sitting in the back of his Maybach, staring at a laptop screen that was flashing a red SYSTEM FAILURE warning.

"What did you do?!" he screamed, spittle flying onto his camera. "My accounts are locked! My servers are wiping!"

"I told you I was going to burn you down, Richard," I said, my voice devoid of any emotion. "You thought my family was a weakness. You failed to realize that they are the only reason I ever held back. I didn't just give you a virus. I gave you a mirror. Everything you've hidden in the dark is now in the light."

"I will kill you!" Sterling bellowed. "Victor! Turn the car around! We're going to Evanston, we're going to slaughter them all!"

"Evanston is empty, Richard," I said softly. "Look out your window."

On the video feed, I saw red and blue lights flashing against Sterling’s terrified face. Federal agents had already tracked his location.

"It's over, Richard. Happy New Year," I disconnected the call.
