Chapter 4 - Forging the Blade

The next morning, the storm had passed, leaving a blindingly bright, silent world behind. I stood in the high-tech command center hidden beneath the cabin. The walls were lined with monitors, mapping out Richard Sterling’s entire corporate and personal footprint.

Marcus stood beside me, his arms crossed. "Sterling crossed a line, Julian. This isn't corporate espionage anymore. It's extortion and attempted murder."

"He thought the divorce meant Clara meant nothing to me," I muttered, staring at a live feed of Sterling's corporate headquarters in Chicago. "He thought he could use her again now that the baby is born. He vastly miscalculated."

"What's the play?" Marcus asked. "We can call the FBI. We have Victor on camera at the house."

"No," I said coldly. "If we go to the authorities, Sterling’s lawyers will tie it up in court for years. He will post bail. He will send more men. As long as Richard Sterling has his wealth and his freedom, my family is not safe."

I turned to Marcus. "I’m going to strip him of everything. I’m going to take his company, his money, and his reputation. I want him ruined before he even realizes he’s under attack."

Clara walked into the command center, holding Maya against her chest in a sling. She looked rested, a fierce light burning in her eyes that I hadn't seen since our early twenties.

"How do we do it?" she asked.

I looked at her, surprised. "Clara, you need to stay safe. I will handle this."

"No," she stepped forward. "He threatened my daughter. He stole a year of our lives. I am not hiding in a cabin while you fight our battles. We do this together, or not at all."

A slow smile spread across my face. This was the woman I fell in love with. Unbreakable.

"Sterling wants the neural-link patent," I explained, pulling up a schematic on the main screen. "It's the future of artificial intelligence. It's worth billions. He's over-leveraged his own company to prepare for the acquisition. If he doesn't get it, his investors will pull out, and his empire collapses."

"So, we give it to him," Clara said, her eyes narrowing.

"Exactly," I nodded. "We give him a Trojan horse. I have a secondary algorithm. It looks identical to the neural-link code, but it’s a self-replicating digital virus. Once he uploads it into his mainframe, it will systematically erase his offshore accounts, dump his proprietary data to the SEC, and permanently lock him out of his own systems."

"But he won't take it unless he thinks he's forced you into a corner," Marcus pointed out.

"Which is why I'm going to surrender," I said, my voice laced with venom. "Set up a meeting for tonight. Just me and Sterling. It's time to play the broken man."
