Chapter 9 - The Trap

The video echoed loudly through the state-of-the-art sound system of the grand ballroom.
Mia’s tear-stained face loomed massively over the terrified, wealthy audience.
"Daniel paid me three million dollars to wear a blonde wig and forge Claire's signature," Mia confessed on the screen.
"He is laundering fifty million dollars for the cartel, and he planned to murder Claire tonight to cover his tracks."
The elite guests gasped in collective, horrified realization, whispering frantically to one another.
The flawless, untouchable reputation of Daniel Harrison was completely and utterly obliterated in mere seconds.
Daniel stared at the massive screen, his eyes wide with a manic, desperate kind of madness.
He realized his entire empire, his wealth, and his freedom were entirely gone.
He let out a furious, primal roar and pulled a hidden switchblade from the inside pocket of his tuxedo.
He lunged violently toward me, aiming the sharp, silver blade directly at my throat.
I did not flinch, nor did I reach for the handgun hidden beneath my dress.
Riley tackled Daniel with devastating, trained precision before he could even take two steps.
She slammed his face brutally against the hardwood stage, knocking the knife from his grip.
She twisted his arm painfully behind his back and snapped heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.
Daniel thrashed wildly on the ground, spitting blood and screaming obscenities.
"My lawyers will destroy both of you!" Daniel shrieked, saliva flying from his lips.
"I am a billionaire, I am untouchable!"
I walked over and knelt down gracefully beside his pathetic, restrained body.
I looked down at him with a cold, triumphant smile that I had earned through blood and terror.
"You don't have a single dime left to pay a lawyer, Daniel," I whispered softly.
"The FBI seized the corporate accounts, and I reversed your illegal cartel transfers."
"You are completely broke, and the cartel knows exactly where you are going to sleep tonight."
The sheer terror that washed over his face was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

The wail of dozens of police sirens filled the night air outside the museum.
Federal agents poured through the main doors, swarming the building to complete the arrests.
