Chapter 6 - The Desperate Remedy
Leo violently shoved the girl completely out of the bullet's deadly path just in the absolute nick of time.
The gunshot echoed heavily like thunder, and the bullet completely shattered a marble pillar directly behind where she had been standing.
Leo scrambled aggressively to his feet, clutching the precious vial tightly, and forcefully dragged the girl toward the bank's underground vault.
They sprinted rapidly down the spiral concrete staircase and forcefully locked the heavy steel vault door completely behind them.
The thick metal perfectly blocked the chaotic sounds of the violent gunfight continuously raging upstairs in the main lobby.
Leo collapsed heavily against the cold steel door, breathing incredibly heavily as a dark red stain began to spread across his oversized shirt.
"You have absolutely been shot!" the girl cried out in pure terror, rushing to press her shaking hands against his actively bleeding side.
Leo offered a weak, pain-filled smile and gently shook his head to completely dismiss her overwhelming, frantic concern.
"It is entirely just a graze, we deeply need to completely focus on getting this medicine directly into your system right now," Leo insisted.
He quickly uncorked the tiny glass vial and carefully handed the glowing blue liquid directly to the trembling girl.
She did not hesitate for a single second, rapidly and entirely drinking the bitter, metallic-tasting antidote down to the very last drop.
Almost immediately, a terrifying, burning sensation violently exploded aggressively throughout her entire, damaged nervous system.
She collapsed entirely onto the cold vault floor, screaming in absolute agony as her deeply damaged nerves began to forcibly reconnect.
Leo held her incredibly tightly, constantly whispering beautiful words of comfort and immense bravery to keep her completely conscious.
"The intense pain absolutely means the medicine is actively healing your damaged nerves, you have to fight," Leo encouraged her fiercely.
After ten excruciatingly long minutes, the burning sensation miraculously faded entirely into a warm, deeply comforting glow in her legs.
She cautiously wiggled her bare toes, entirely overwhelmed by the incredibly beautiful, entirely forgotten sensation of physical movement.
She slowly planted her bare feet firmly onto the concrete floor and miraculously pushed herself up entirely into a standing position.
She was absolutely no longer weak; her legs felt incredibly strong and completely restored to their natural, incredible power.
Tears of profound, beautiful joy streamed heavily down her face as she took her first truly independent steps in years.
