Chapter 3 - The Dangerous Escape

The girl quickly shoved the tablet beneath her soft pillows just as her father strode confidently into the dark room.

His face was completely unreadable, perfectly masking whatever incredibly dark secrets he was actively hiding from her.

"I wanted to make sure you were recovering well from the completely unnecessary stress of tonight," he lied smoothly.

She forced a weak smile, desperately trying to keep her breathing steady while the hidden tablet burned like a secret fire.

"I am just very tired, Father," she replied quietly, hoping he would simply leave her entirely alone.

He kissed her forehead with a chillingly fake affection and quietly closed the heavy mahogany door behind him.

As soon as his heavy footsteps faded entirely down the long hallway, she pulled the tablet back out and removed the microchip.

She knew she could absolutely never trust the man who had murdered her mother and intentionally confined her to a wheelchair.

She grabbed a small emergency backpack and quietly packed a few essential warm clothes and the secret silver pendant.

Using the incredible upper body strength she had developed over four years, she carefully lowered herself from the window using tied bedsheets.

The physical pain in her weak legs was agonizing, but the terrifying truth aggressively pushed her beyond her normal limits.

She landed heavily in the soft bushes below, completely abandoning her expensive wheelchair in the luxurious bedroom above.

The barefoot boy, whose name she now remembered was Leo, suddenly stepped out from the deep shadows of the rose garden.

"I knew you would eventually find the video and come down here tonight," Leo whispered, quickly helping her to her trembling feet.

He practically carried her toward a hidden gap in the massive iron security gates completely surrounding the vast estate.

They slipped completely unnoticed into the dark, rainy city streets, leaving her entire life of luxurious imprisonment entirely behind.

Leo expertly guided her through a complex maze of narrow alleyways until they reached an abandoned subway station deep underground.

He set her down gently on a broken wooden bench and handed her a small, plastic bottle of fresh water.

"My mother was the lead scientist who developed the experimental nerve toxin your father secretly gave you," Leo finally confessed.

The girl stared at him in pure, unadulterated shock, realizing her paralysis was not from the crash, but from a continuous, intentional poison.

"She created an incredible antidote before your father ruthlessly had her killed, and I have it hidden safely across the city," Leo explained.

Suddenly, the deafening screech of heavy armored tires echoed aggressively from the street level directly above their heads.

Dozens of heavily armed mercenaries carrying bright tactical flashlights began rapidly descending the concrete stairs into the subway station.

Her father's ruthless head of security, a massive man named Marcus, pointed a bright red laser sight directly at Leo's chest.
