Chapter 7 - The Private Clinic

Leo slammed the truck into drive and floored the accelerator, sending mud flying into the dark woods.

We tore down the narrow mountain road, desperately trying to outrun the armored SUVs pursuing us.

Gunfire erupted from the vehicles behind us, shattering our rear window into a thousand sharp pieces.

I ducked down below the dashboard, covering my head as bullets tore through the metal frame of the truck.

Leo swerved violently, expertly navigating the treacherous, winding curves at terrifying speeds.

We finally crashed through a heavy wooden gate, bursting into the hidden compound of the Blackwood Clinic.

The truck slammed into a concrete barrier, the airbags deploying with a deafening, powdery explosion.

I pushed the deflated airbag away, my head spinning from the brutal impact.

Leo kicked his jammed door open and dragged me out of the smoking vehicle into the freezing rain.

The clinic was a massive, concrete fortress completely hidden beneath the canopy of ancient pine trees.

We ran toward the steel loading doors, narrowly avoiding the armed guards swarming the courtyard.

Leo punched a complex override code into the keypad, and the heavy doors hissed open.

We slipped inside, finding ourselves in a sterile, brightly lit corridor that smelled heavily of bleach and iron.

We crept past several empty surgical suites, the silence inside the building feeling incredibly unnatural.

At the end of the hall, large glass viewing windows overlooked a massive, state-of-the-art operating theater.

I looked through the glass and let out a muffled gasp of absolute horror.

Eleanor was lying on a surgical table, her skin gray and decaying, hooked up to dozens of complex machines.

On the table next to her, Julian was strapped down with heavy leather restraints, looking completely pale and lifeless.

Thick, clear tubes ran from his spine directly into a centrifuge machine connected to his grandmother.

I grabbed the door handle, fully prepared to rush in and fight the masked surgeons with my bare hands.

Suddenly, a cold, heavy metal barrel was pressed firmly against the base of my skull.

I froze, slowly raising my trembling hands into the air.

I turned my head just enough to see the man holding the weapon against my head.

It was Leo, his scarred face completely devoid of any emotion or sympathy.

He coldly stated that bringing me here was his only ticket back into the family's good graces.
