Chapter 10 - The Ghost

The silence of the room was beautiful.

I walked toward the large window, looking down at the busy city streets far below.

I had survived everything they threw at me.

I had legally secured the fortune, protected my own life, and avenged the betrayal of my youth.

I took another long, slow sip of the red wine, savoring the absolute victory.

“You always did look beautiful in white, Eleanor.”

The voice came from the dark corner of the hotel room.

I dropped my wine glass on the carpet, the red liquid splashing violently across my bare feet.

Sitting perfectly still in the velvet armchair was a man I had buried three weeks ago.

Garrett stepped out of the shadows, looking completely healthy and impeccably dressed.

He casually locked the hotel door from the inside and pulled a suppressed pistol from his coat.

“You played your part perfectly,” Garrett whispered, a cruel smile spreading across his face.

“You handed the feds my children, you cleared out the cartel, and you neatly consolidated all my money into one clean account under your name.”

He raised the weapon and pointed it directly at my chest.

“Now, my sweet Eleanor, you are going to transfer every single penny to my offshore account before you tragically jump out of this window.”
