Chapter 10 - The Fall and The Future

Tristan gripped the heavy weapon, a sick smile of pure victory spreading across his desperate face as he aimed at my chest.
Before he could even put his finger on the trigger, the deafening roar of military helicopters shook the entire warehouse.
General Vance stepped out of the shadows, flanked by dozens of heavily armed federal agents and military police.
"Chief, you and your corrupt officers are officially under federal arrest for high treason and domestic terrorism," Vance announced loudly.
The police chief instantly dropped his hands in total defeat, realizing the military had completely outmaneuvered him.
Tristan whimpered pathetically, dropping the gun and falling to his knees as federal agents swarmed him and his screaming mother.
I rushed to my father, pulling him into a tight, desperate hug as Carter quickly cut the heavy ropes binding his wrists.
The nightmare was finally over, and the people who had tortured our family were going away for the rest of their lives.
Six months later, my father stood proudly in a beautiful, sunlit garden, completely healthy and wearing a pristine tuxedo.
He smiled warmly as he walked me down an aisle of gorgeous white roses, handing me over to Carter, the man I truly loved.
The wedding was small, intimate, and absolutely perfect, free from the toxic judgment of people who never truly mattered.
Everything was finally completely perfect in our peaceful new lives.
I decided to clean out my father's old gardening truck to surprise him by having it fully restored.
While scrubbing the rusted dashboard, my hand slipped and pushed against a hidden metal panel that popped open with a sharp click.

Inside the dark compartment sat a fresh photograph of my mother, smiling brightly while holding today's morning newspaper.
She was still alive, and someone had circled her beautiful face with thick, dripping red ink.
