Chapter 6 - The Darkness

A silenced gunshot shattered the majestic music.
The bullet ripped through the wooden podium right where Elena's chest had been a millisecond before.
A heavy body tackled her hard to the wooden floor before a second shot could be fired.
"Keep your head down," Dante whispered gruffly directly into her ear.
The auditorium erupted into pure, unadulterated chaos once again.
People were screaming and blindly shoving each other in the pitch blackness.
Dante dragged Elena violently by her arm, pulling her off the stage and back into the dark wings.
"How did you find me in the dark?" she gasped, struggling to keep up with his massive strides.
"I always know exactly where you are," Dante replied firmly.
He pushed her through a hidden access door completely concealed behind the velvet curtains.
They tumbled down a narrow flight of concrete stairs into the humid basement of the building.
The faint sounds of gunfire echoed from the floor above them.
"Victor Rossi does not use professional snipers," Dante muttered, checking his weapon's magazine.
"Someone else is trying to kill you, Elena."
He pulled out his phone and turned the screen brightness to its lowest setting.
He quickly opened a highly encrypted tracking application to check his security team's positions.
Elena watched Dante's expression shift from focused to absolute horror.
"What is it?" she asked, her voice trembling in the damp air.
"My head of security just deactivated the electronic locks on the south doors," Dante said quietly.
"He purposefully let the sniper into the building."
Dante looked up from the glowing screen, his dark eyes filled with a lethal realization.

"The call came from inside my own family."
Suddenly, a heavy metal grate slammed shut at the top of the stairs, locking them completely underground.
