Chapter 9 - The Parley

The helicopter’s warning systems screamed loudly as multiple targeting lasers locked onto the hull.

Declan knew the armor could deflect bullets, but a direct hit from a rocket would vaporize them.

He grabbed the radio and broadcasted on an open frequency.

He announced to Kieran that he had the signed port authority deeds in his hand.

Kieran’s smug voice crackled over the radio, ordering his men to stand down.

He told Declan to land the helicopter slowly at the edge of the dock.

Declan brought the heavy chopper down onto the wet concrete, the rotors kicking up a storm of mist.

He unbuckled his harness and looked at Gemma.

Her breathing was terribly shallow, her pulse erratic and weak.

He grabbed a waterproof folder and stepped out into the freezing rain.

Dozens of red laser sights instantly painted his chest.

Kieran stepped forward, holding a small blue glass vial in his left hand.

He smiled and praised his little brother for finally learning how to obey orders.

Declan demanded to see Chloe before he handed over the documents.

Kieran snapped his fingers, and two massive guards dragged a bound Chloe out of a shipping container.

She was bruised and terrified, but completely alive.

Declan held up the waterproof folder containing the transfer deeds.

He demanded the antidote first, or he would throw the folder into the river.

Kieran laughed out loud at the empty threat.

He reminded Declan that the deeds were waterproof, so the river wouldn't ruin them anyway.

But Kieran agreed to the trade, wanting to finalize his total victory.

He tossed the blue vial onto the wet pavement, directly between them.

He ordered his guards to let the girl go.

Chloe sprinted across the wet concrete, sobbing as she hid behind Declan’s massive frame.

Declan gently tossed the folder to his brother.

Kieran opened the folder, his eyes gleaming with absolute greed.

He pulled out the document and read the signature at the bottom of the page.

His smug smile instantly vanished, replaced by sheer panic.

He looked up at Declan and screamed that it was a trap.
