Chapter 7 - The Dominoes Fall

I didn't go to the local police. Local cops could be bought, bullied, or tied up by expensive lawyers.

Instead, I sent the encrypted folder, the audio confession, and a neatly organized summary of Julian's Ponzi scheme directly to the cyber-crimes division of the FBI. Then, I forwarded the same packet to the three largest clients Julian had been stealing from.

The reaction was instantaneous.

By 9:00 a.m. the next morning, federal agents raided Julian’s Georgetown home and his corporate office simultaneously. News helicopters hovered over his building. The firm’s assets were frozen.

Julian’s lawyer dropped him the second the FBI showed up. There is no loyalty among thieves when the feds arrive.

Julian was completely cornered. His passports were flagged, his bank accounts were locked down, and the dangerous loan sharks he owed money to were suddenly realizing he couldn't pay them back.

A cornered rat is dangerous. And I knew exactly where he would go.
